Prim-ministrul Dorin Recean s-a adresat cetățenilor R. Moldova în seara zilei de joi, 17 octombrie, în ajunul alegerilor prezidențiale și a referendumului constituțional.
Marea Britanie a aplicat sancțiuni pentru alte 18 nave petroliere rusești și patru tancuri de transportare a gazelor naturale lichefiate (GNL).
Armata rusă a început să înainteze spre nord și sud de Ceasiv Iar, în regiunea Donețk, crescând presiunea asupra pozițiilor forțelor ucrainene din această zonă de importanță strategică. Situația este descrisă de armata ucraineană ca fiind „liniștea dinaintea furtunii”.

Candidata independentă, Natalia Morari, a anunțat că va participa la ultima ediție a dezbaterilor electorale organizate de TV8 în seara zilei de 16 octombrie. Se întâmplă după ce ediția din ziua precedentă nu a avut loc din cauza unei pene de curent.
Statele Unite cred că Rusia încearcă să submineze alegerile prezidențiale din Republica Moldova și referendumul privind aderarea la Uniunea Europeană, cheltuind în acest scop milioane de dolari, a declarat Casa Albă, cu cinci zile înainte de votul din 20 octombrie.
Ex-deputatul comunist Sergiu Stati, a fost trimis în judecată de procurorii anticorupție în dosarul penal în care este învinuit de îmbogățire ilicită. Stati este unul din cei 13 parlamentari comuniști care au părăsit, în 2015, partidul condus de Vladimir Voronin pentru a adera la Partidul Democrat.
Controversatul om de afaceri moldovean, Veaceslav Platon, care se ascunde la Londra de anchete ale justiției moldovene, este acuzat într-o declarație difuzată de autoritățile ruse pe 15 octombrie de sustragerea a peste 48 de miliarde de ruble din Rusia.
Ex-deputata PAS Victoria Cazacu, exclusă din rândurile formațiunii după un scandal de corupție în care a fost implicată fiica ei, a anunțat că va adera la Partidul Nostru condus de Renato Usatîi, candidat la prezidențialele din 20 octombrie.
